MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | This site is on the west side of Tanaga Island, in Tanaga Pass. One sea otter was seen when setting the buoy. The site was within an Alaria fistulosa bed. The depth at this site was 30 ft. on a coarse substrate of bedrock and boulders, mostly encrusted with coralline algae (Lithothamnion sp.). There was some sand along the transect. Bottom temperature was 5 C. Visibility was approximately 25 ft. There was a little current and big swell. The dominant algae, other than encrusting coralline, included Alaria fistulosa, Agarum turneri, Constantinea subulifera, bladed red ? Kallymeniaceae, and leathery red. Fauna were dominated mainly by small (some large) Strongylocentrotus sp., orange vase sponge and yellow nipple sponge (Polymastia sp.). Fish taken (5) included 1 female and 1 male rock greenling (Hexagrammos lagocephalus), and 3 red Irish lord (Hemilepidotus hemilepidotus). |
