MonitoringLocationDescriptionText From Durango, take Hwy 160 west towards Cortez. Turn left onto Hwy 140 and follow into NM towards the town of La Plata. As you near La Plata, take a right on Rd. 1274. Follow until the intersection with Rd 1191. Take a left on Rd. 1191 and follow for 1 mile. Take a right (look for earth house) and follow. You will cross the La Plata Mine private Rd. at about 0.9 miles. Continue straight and at 2 miles you will go through the Ute Mtn fence. Approximately 0.4 miles veer left and stay on main road. There will be another gate/fence 1.8 miles from the point you veered left. Continue another 1.6 miles and you will see green gas tanks on the left. Take a left. Follow main road for another 0.8 miles. You will pass a windmill. Continue straight (staying left). At about 2 miles you will drop down into a gulch. Continue 1 more mile. There will be a clearing with old tank/debris. Walk down to the gulch.
