MonitoringLocationDescriptionText The sample site is located on the Gardner River near the confluence of the Yellowstone River and drains approximately 52,318 hectares of the north and west portions of Yellowstone National Park. Several portions of the Gardner River's watershed are thermally influenced. Obsidian Creek, a prominent tributary in the southern portion of the watershed drains several thermal features whose waters are very acidic. In addition, the Boiling River empties into the Gardner River approximately 2 miles upstream from the sample location and contributes greatly to the dissolved solutes found in the lower portion of the Gardner River.
