THE SITE IS THE HISTORICAL WATER SUPPLY FOR THE PARK FROM THE 1930'S. IT IS A LARGE DEVELOPED SPRING WITH AN APPROXIMATELY TWOMILE LONG DISCHARGE PIPE. THE DISCHARGE FLOWS INTO COLD SPRING CREEK. CHEMICAL ANALYSIS WAS COMPLETED BY THE EPA REGION 8 LAB IN DENVER CO. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY WERE TO DOCUMENT ANY DEGRADATION OF WATER QUALITY IN THE CAVE WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY SURFACE DEVELOPMENT AND TO COLLECT BASELINE WATER QUALITY DATA IN AREAS AWAY FROM THESE DEVELOPMENTS FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT JAMES NEPSTAD; CAVE SPECIALIST; WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK RR1 BOX 190 HOT SPRINGS SD 57747.
