| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | Pecos River: The upper Pecos River watershed received an Outstanding Natural Resource Waters designation on 12 July 2022. Despite that upstream ONRW designation, Pecos River (Canon de Manzanita to Alamitos Canyon; NM-2214.A_003) has an approved temperature Total Maximum Daily Load and a dissolved oxygen impairment that was added in the 2022 review cycle. This index reach is characterized by a mix of glides, runs, riffles, and pool habitats. Substrates consist of a mix bedrock, cobble, gravel, and sandy substrates. Willows predominate in the riparian corridor with large cottonwoods and grassy meadows common along the floodplain. Designated uses for the Pecos River basin (Cow creek and all its tributaries and the main stem of the Pecos River from the southern boundary of the Pecos National Historical Park upstream to its headwaters, including all tributaries thereto) include domestic water supply, fish culture, high quality coldwater fishery, irrigation, livestock watering, wildlife habitat, and secondary contact.
