SITE IS LOCATED ON CHAMISE CREEK APPROXIMATELY .5 MILE UPSTREAM OF ITS CONFLUENCE WITH KAWEAH RIVER. IT IS CONSIDERED A LOW ELEVATION (750 M) CHAPARRAL FOOTHILL SITE DOMINATED BY CHAMISE (ADENOSTOMA FASCICULATUM). PRECIPITATION AVERAGES 66 CM ANNUALLY NEARLY ALL FALLING AS RAIN DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. PRIMARY SOIL SUBGROUPS INCLUDE TYPIC EXROCHREPTS ENTIC ULTIC HAPLOXEROLLS ULTIC HAPLOXERALFS AND ULTIC PALEXERALFS. CHAMISE CREEK IS AN INTERMITTENT FIRST ORDER TRIBUTARY GAUGED WITH AN HTYPE FLUME AND INSTRUMENTED WITH A STEVENS TYPE F WATER LEVEL RECORDER. THE CREEK IS SAMPLED OPPORTUNISTICALLY.
