MonitoringLocationDescriptionText This station is Santa Monica Bay Site No. 679, approximately 2.2 km south of Topanga Canyon Creek mouth, Topanga, CA. Pelagic forage fish and squid field composite samples were randomly collected at several local commercial fishing ports along the southern California coast from both commercial landing markets and bait receivers. Fishing location was determined from landing receipts or directly from fishing captain or bait receiver tender. Fishing location was typically provided as a California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) fishing block, a number identifying a 10 mi x 10 mi (16 x 16 km) block encompassing a 100 mi2 (260 km2) square area. Block numbers were designated for fishing location when only a geographic landmark was provided.
