THE STATION WAS ON PIPESTONE CREEK UPSTREAM OF PIPESTONE NATIONAL MONUMENT IN THE MAIN COUNTY DRAINAGE DITCH; WHICH DRAINS PREDOMINATELY AGRICULTURAL LANDS; A QUARTER MILE ABOVE CONFLUENCE WITH A SIDE DRAINAGE DITCH. THE CREEK WAS SAMPLED AS A RESULT OF THE CHALLENGE COST SHARE GRANT PROGRAM BETWEEN THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AND THE SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT OF PIPESTONE COUNTY; MINNESOTA IN 1993. THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY WAS TO IDENTIFY THE TYPES AND SOURCES OF CHEMICAL POLLUTANTS TO PIPESTONE CREEK; WHICH HAD A LONG HISTORY OF WATER QUALITY PROBLEMS.
