| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | This spring branch is located on the right descending bank of Cave Spring Branch upstream of Hickory Landing ford. This is a name given by NPS staff, there is no USGS map designation. Site is located 22 m (70 ft) upstream of the mouth. Site is located 18 m (60 ft) downstream of the spring orifice. Fine gravel substrate. The right descending bank is fairly steep of soil and moderately sparse vegetation with a multi-trunked box elder immediately downstream of site. The left descending bank is a sand and gravel bar with annual vegetation and tree saplings . UTM taken with Garmin 62s is 15 S 0686446, 4084865 2017 Notes: The flood in May left a lot of downed trees and makes the mouth of this spring hard to see when walking up to it on the left descending bank. The GPS points will take you to the mouth, but you will need to walk upstream in Cave Branch approximately 100ft and then cross over the gravel bar to reach the sample site and avoid the downed trees. The spring itself is located at N36 53.499 W90 54.460. |
