MonitoringLocationDescriptionText THE SITE IS LOCATED ON THE QUITOBAQUITO SPRINGS ARIZONA 15 MINUTE SERIES (TOPO.) QUADRANGLE. THE SITE IS AT QUITOBAQUITO POND OUTLET. IN 1860 A DAM WAS CONSTRUCTED AND A POND DUG TO CAPTURE THE FLOW OF 2 OF SEVERAL SPRINGS EMANATING FROM THE QUITOBAQUITO HILLS IN ORPI NEAR LUKEVILLE AZ. COMBINED FLOW FROM THE NORTHEAST SPRING AND THE SOUTH WEST SPRINGS ENTERS THE POND VIA A 700 FOOT LONG OPEN CHANNEL FROM THE SOUTHWEST SPRING TO THE POND. THE POND IS APPROX. 200'x 260.' THE POND'S DISCHARGE AT THE POND OUTLET USUALLY FLOWS ONLY A FEW METERS AND THEN SEEPS INTO THE SOIL OR IS LOST BY EVAPOTRANSPIRATION. DATA FOR THIS SITE ARE FROM A 19821983 PROJECT BY CPSU RESEARCH ECOLOGIST PETER BENNETT ANALYZING POTENTIAL DRAINAGE OF SPRINGS IN THE QUITOBAQUITO AREA BY WELLS IN MEXICO.
