| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | THE SITE IS LOCATED ON THE QUITOBAQUITO SPRINGS AZ 15 MINUTE SERIES (TOPO.) QUADRANGLE AND IS AT QUITOBAQUITO POND. IN 1860 A DAM WAS BUILT AND A POND DUG TO CAPTURE THE FLOW OF 2 OF SEVERAL SPRINGS EMANATING FROM THE QUITOBAQUITO HILLS IN ORPI NEAR LUKEVILLE AZ. COMBINED FLOW FROM THE 2 SPRINGS ENTERS THE POND VIA A 700 FOOT LONG OPEN CHANNEL FROM THE SOUTHWEST SPRING TO THE POND. THE POND IS APPROX. 200'x 260' AND AVERAGES A DEPTH OF 4.8 FEET. THE CHANNEL AND THE POND PROVIDE HABITAT FOR THE ENDANGERED SPECIES OF DESERT PUPFISH. THE SPRING AND POND TOGETHER FORM THE LARGEST SURFACE WATER RESOURCE IN THE MONUMENT.
