| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | The Little Bighorn River forms the western boundary of the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, and is the only body of water on the park unit. The Monument is about 1.6 km wide from north to south, but the Little Bighorn River boundary is probably 3 times this length because of stream meanders. We sampled 3 reaches on the Little Bighorn River; each was 300 m long. The Lower Reach was located near the northern Monument boundary, and was primarily run and pool habitat, with one short (about 20 m) riffle. Depths ranged to about 2.0 m, stream width was 1520 m, and substrates ranged from silt to cobble. The upstream end of the reach is located at latitude 45.56530 and longitude 107.44505 and the downstream end of the reach is located at latitude 45.56665 and longitude 107.44647. The given latitude and longitude is the middle of the reach. |
