THE STATION WAS ON BIRCH RUN AT THE INTERSECTION OF HOLLOW AND FRENCH CREEK ROADS; RIVER MILE 0.08. THE CREEK WAS SAMPLED AS PART OF A STUDY BY THE NPS AND PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO ASSESS NONPOINT SOURCE POLLUTION IN FRENCH CREEK AND TO DOCUMENT OVERALL WATER QUALITY IN THE BASIN. DATA WERE PUBLISHED IN THE REPORT "AQUATIC BIOLOGY INVESTIGATION; FRENCH CREEK/CHESTER COUNTY; NPS SURVEY" BY MICHAEL R. BOYER (1993). THE REPORT STATED; "CHEMICAL PARAMETERS INDICATED A HEALTHY COLDWATER ECOSYSTEM. COLIFORM LEVELS WERE SLIGHTLY ELEVATED; PROBABLY FROM AGRICULTURAL SOURCES..OVERALL STREAM CONDITIONS WERE SUPPORTIVE OF ITS HQTSF DESIGNATION."
