MonitoringLocationDescriptionText THE STATION IS LOCATED ON THE ELVERSON PENNSYLVANIA 7.5' SERIES (TOPOGRAPHIC) QUADRANGLE. THE STATION WAS SOUTH OF HOPEWELL FURNACE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE ON PINE CREEK AT HARMONYVILLE ROAD; RIVER MILE 21.87. THE CREEK WAS SAMPLED AS PART OF A STUDY BY THE NPS AND THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO ASSESS NONPOINT SOURCE POLLUTION IN FRENCH CREEK AND TO DOCUMENT OVERALL WATER QUALITY IN THE BASIN. DATA WERE PUBLISHED IN THE REPORT "AQUATIC BIOLOGY INVESTIGATION; FRENCH CREEK; CHESTER COUNTY; NPS SURVEY" BY MICHAEL R. BOYER (1993). THE REPORT STATED; "FIELD CHEMISTRIES WERE TYPICAL OF A HEALTHY COLD WATER STREAM..THE PRESENCE OF WILD BROOK TROUT AND A DIVERSE AND SENSITIVE BENTHIC COMMUNITY INDICATE EXCELLENT WATER QUALITY. SILTATION FROM AGRICULTURAL SOURCES IS PROBABLY LIMITING THE BROOK TROUT POPULATION."
