THE STATION WAS INSIDE HOPEWELL FURNACE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE (HOFU) ON FRENCH CREEK AT PENNSYLVANIA ROUTE 345 BRIDGE; RIVER MILE 21.87. THE CREEK WAS SAMPLED AS PART OF A STUDY BY THE NPS AND PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO ASSESS NONPOINT SOURCE POLLUTION IN FRENCH CREEK AND TO DOCUMENT OVERALL WATER QUALITY IN THE BASIN. DATA WERE PUBLISHED IN THE REPORT "AQUATIC BIOLOGY INVESTIGATION; FRENCH CREEK/CHESTER COUNTY; NPS SURVEY" (MICHAEL R. BOYER; 1993). THE REPORT STATED; "OVERALL STREAM CONDITIONS AT STATION 1 ARE GOOD ALTHOUGH THE HQCWF CLASSIFICATION IS NOT BEING ATTAINED.
