| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | Fossil Gulch Springs (T7S R13E 17AAA) is located in a drainage below the Horse Quarry at HAFO. The Fossil Gulch Springs are comprised of two main springs, the North and South Forks, which have been monitored for flow discharge since 1997. Based on a volumetric flow measurement, the North Fork weir averaged 1.2 liters per second, and the South Fork averaged 0.5 liters per second. A monitoring well was installed in sand and clay material to capture water samples for chemical analyses every month. Five different horizontal PVC wells were used from previous studies near the location of the sampling well. The amount of flow from these horizontal wells was not sufficient to sample, so the new monitoring well was installed and water was continuously siphoned out of the well using small tubing. As each sample was collected, baseline water parameters were measured. The flow rate from the well average 0.01 liters per second. Fossil Gulch Springs is considered to reside in the sand hydrogeologic group. |
