MonitoringLocationDescriptionText The 1993 North Plateau Landslide Spring (T6S R13E 33ACD) is located in the North area of the Bell Rapids plateau on BLM property, occurring in approximately 1993 and next to a paleo landslide. The spring is at an elevation of 960 meters. This entire slide complex is unstable with many large boulders covering the complex. In October 2005, there was a large range fire that cleared vegetation on the hillside. The retrieval of samples occurred about ten meters from the base of the basalt due to the many large boulders blocking the spring discharge at the base. At this location a weir was placed to make flow measurements and collect the water samples. In February 2005, a small slide occurred below the spring, moving rocks and mud down the slope and causing the blockage of the weir. At the sampling location, average flow is about 0.12 liters per second, which is only a small fraction of the total flow. Below this point the water flows underneath a rock wall (approximately 10 meters down slope), then out again, producing a small pond of water below the main complex. Grab samples were retrieved once every three months. There also appears to be a second source of water seeping down the hill and west of the slide, as evidenced by the presence of fresh vegetation after the fire occurred. The source of water in the slide area is estimated to be from deep percolation and regional groundwater. This site is considered to reside in the basalt hydrogeologic group.
