| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | This facility is located on a small promontory in Biloxi, Mississippi, called Point Cadet. Deer Island, a nearshore barrier island, lies immediately south of the Hatchery and provides limited protection from high waves during summer storms and hurricanes. The experimental site was situated under the Hatchery pier in approximately 1.2 m of water, 2.3 m from shore. The relatively firm bottom at the location was composed of a mixture of sand, mud, and some shell debris. Marsh grass and other estuarine vegetation were absent in the immediate area, but oysters were abundant in the intertidal zone. |
