THE STATION IS LOCATED AT TOMALES BAY NEAR THE MIDDLE OF MARSHALL CHANNEL AND IS WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF GOLDEN GATE NATIONAL RECREATION AREA. DATA ARE FROM "ECOLOGICAL SURVEY OF TOMALES BAY" (MARCH 1961) BY R.G. JOHNSON; W.R. BRYANT; AND J.W. HEDGPETH FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC; PACIFIC MARINE STATION. THE STUDY WAS SUPPORTED BY A NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION GRANT AND WAS CONDUCTED TO "INVESTIGATE BASIC PROBLEMS IN MARINE ECOLOGY AND GEOLOGY" AND TO DEVELOP A LONGTERM MONITORING PROGRAM FOR THE AREA.
