| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | The station is located on the Hall Mesa UT 7.5 minute U.S. Geological Survey (topographic) quadrangle in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The data appear in the 1991 article "Survey of Pathogenic Naegleria fowleri and Thermotolerant Amebas in Federal Recreation Waters" by J.L. Detterline and W.E. Wilhelm in Trans. Am. Microsc. Soc. 110(3):244261. The authors are with the Memphis State University Department of Biology. Samples were collected from 59 sites by managers of federal recreation waters across the United States during September and October 1987. The samples were processed for the pathogenic ameboflagellate Naegleria fowleri. Recently disturbed environments had a significant effect on the occurrence of N. fowleri. Exact sample sites were unavailable so lat/lon coordinates were chosen for the most likely sample locations. Specific dates were also unavailable. All samples were assigned a date of 09/30/1987. Data were uploaded to STORET by the NPS Water Resources Division; Fort Collins CO 80525 (Tel. 9702253516).*** Legacy STORET Station Type: /RESERV/TYPA/AMBNT |
