MonitoringLocationDescriptionText THE STATION IS LOCATED ON THE BAY SHORE EAST; NY 7.5 MINUTE SERIES (TOPOGRAPHIC) QUADRANGLE AND IS OUTSIDE OF FIRE ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE (FIIS) BOUNDARIES. THE SITE IS 100 YARDS FROM QUINTUCK CREEK NEAR HECKSCHER STATE PARK AT THE SHORELINE OF GREAT SOUTH BAY OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. MEASUREMENTS OF LEAD CONCENTRATIONS IN WATER AND SEDIMENTS WERE TAKEN AT THIS STATION ON 3 AUGUST 1972. WATER DATA ARE REPORTED AS A COMPOSITE OF 3 SAMPLES (SURFACE; MIDDLE AND BOTTOM). DATA ARE SUMMARIZED IN A 1972 MASTER OF SCIENCE THESIS TITLED "AN INVESTIGATION OF THE LEAD IN THE WATER; PLANKTON; AND SEDIMENTS OF THE GREAT SOUTH BAY; LONG ISLAND; NEW YORK" BY MICHAEL H. KOENIG (LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY; CW POST CAMPUS). THE STATION WAS DIGITIZED USING MAPS PROVIDED IN THE REPORT.
