| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | This segment has a low to moderate gradient that traverses Sun Meadows. The stream flows along the east ridge that borders this meadow area. The east ridge has a moderately dense fir forest growing down to near the channel, providing partial shading. Dry and wet meadows are found on the west side of the stream. There are some patches of fir in the meadow, plus extensive growth of low willows near the stream channel. Stream banks are steep, and about 0.5 meters high. The channel is narrowly confined between these banks for most of its length. Mean channel width is about 0.5 meters. Banks are stabilized by herbs grass, willows, roots, and moss. Some reaches have slightly undercut banks. Run habitat is dominant and riffles are common. These erosional habitats are broken by occasional debris dams and pools. Pool development is poor overall. Depths average about 5 cm in runsriffles. Bottom substrates are dominated by fine to medium gravel and sand. Coarser gravel is found in some riffles, but cobbles are rare. Kicknet and hand pick samples were taken at 6490 feet, just upstream of where the motorized nature trail crosses the stream. The station description was based on station visits that occurred during September 1990. |
