| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | The station is located on the mainstem of Sand Creek at an elevation of 6900 feet. Stream gradient is high. A Vshaped valley with a narrow floor contains the stream channel. Upper slopes consist of Alpine fir forest which provides partial shading to the channel. Grass and herbaceous vegetation is dense in the riparian area. The stream channel is 0.5 to 1 meter wide. Riffles and cascade steps are dominant. Angular cobblerubble overlies loosely consolidated sand and gravel. The station description was based on station visits that occurred during September 1990. |
