| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | At about 4800 feet in elevation, Sand Creek emerges from the narrow, steepwalled Pinnacles region and begins its traverse of the low sloping plateau down to the Klamath Marsh basin. A kicknet sample was taken at 4695 feet in elevation where the Sun Mountain Road crosses Sand Creek. This is just upstream of where irrigation diversions begin. Stream bottom substrates at the Sun Mountain Road crossing is dominated by pumice sand. There are a few pockets of gravel and scattered cobbles, but these probably receive substantial scour during high water events. The most stable habitat present is found on the occasional submerged log, and the moss attached to the logs. The station description was based on station visits that occurred during September 1990. |
