| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | This is a segment of Lost Creek about 100 meters in total length, that forms a transition from the gradient talus slope area of the springhead to a low sloping plateau. The elevation interval is from about 6140 to 6120 feet. The numerous channels of the spring collect at the base of the talus slope gradient, which is contained in a shallow valley with low sloping side walls. An oldgrowth fir and pine overstory and a cliff provide moderate shading to the channel. Understory vegetation is sparse. Habitats grade from angular cobble riffles near the talus slope to gravelsand glides and riffles at the bottom of the segment. Depths are shallow (515 cm center channel). Stepping caused by crosschannel bole wood is infrequent. Only hand picked collections and visual observations were made during the survey in this segment. The station description was based on station visits that occurred during September 1990. |
