Eagle Cove had an accessible boat landing in 1912 so that shore was chosen as the reference shore. The exact sampling point is not known but could have been anywhere on the lake one mile from a shore, regardless of where the boat was launched. The Eagle Cove site can be found on the Crater Lake West USGS 1:24000 series topographic quadrangle.
