THE SITE IS ON HICKORY CREEK APPROXIMATELY 0.75 MILES DOWNSTREAM FROM THE THOMAS HOLLOW CONFLUENCE AND 0.5 MILES NORTH OF MOUNTAIN LAKE. SAMPLES FOR THE SITE WERE COLLECTED FROM AUGUST 1978 TO FEBRUARY 1979 DURING A STUDY CONDUCTED BY THE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY (USGS) IN COOPERATION WITH THE OKLAHOMA GEOLOGICAL SURVEY (OGS). THE DATA WERE PUBLISHED IN THE 1990 REPORT "HYDROLOGY OF THE ARBUCKLE MOUNTAINS AREA; SOUTHCENTRAL OKLAHOMA" BY ROY W. FAIRCHILD; RONALD L. HANSON; AND ROBERT E. DAVIS. THE LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE COORDINATE VALUES FOR THE SITE WERE OBTAINED BY DIGITIZING A POINT THAT MATCHED THE SITE TYPE AND THE SITE'S TOWNSHIP; RANGE; AND QUARTERQUARTERQUARTER SECTION LOCATION (SECSTA1) AS ILLUSTRATED IN FIGURE 2 OF THE REPORT.
