| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | THE SITE IS LOCATED ON THE RATTLESNAKE SPRING NEW MEXICOTEXAS 7.5 MINUTE SERIES (TOPOGRAPHIC) QUADRANGLE. THE SITE IS AT RATTLESNAKE SPRING WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE WEST OF THE BLACK RIVER. THE SPRING ISSUES A SERIES OF FAINT BOILS THROUGH THE SANDY BOTTOM OF A SMALL DEVELOPED POOL SITUATED ON THE FLATS OF NUEVEO CANYON DRAW. A CONCRETE SUMP HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED IN THE POOL FROM WHICH WATER IS DRAWN AND PUMPED TO CARLSBAD CAVERNS FOR DOMESTIC USE. THIS STATION CONTAINS ALL THE RATTLESNAKE SPRING DATA FROM THE USGS REPORT: "GEOLOGY AND WATER RESOURCES OF THE CARLSBAD AREA EDDY COUNTY NEW MEXICO" BY L.J. BJORKLUND AND W.S. MOTTS DECEMBER 1959 EXCEPT FOR TWO DATES WHICH WERE STORED PREVIOUSLY IN STATION 320635104281501.
