| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | THE STATION IS LOCATED ON THE ELATERITE BASIN UTAH 7.5 MINUTE SERIES (TOPOGRAPHIC) QUADRANGLE. CHOCOLATE DROPS IS A WASH SPRING AND IS LOCATED INSIDE THE CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK BOUNDARY. THE SAMPLES WERE COLLECTED AND ANALYZED BY NATIONAL PARK SERVICE PERSONNEL. THE MONITORING BEGAN IN RESPONSE TO A PROPOSED SITING OF A NUCLEAR WASTE REPOSITORY NEAR THE PARK AS STATED BY B. LONG AND R. SMITH IN THE REPORT "WATER QUALITY DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION FOR SPRING MONITORING SITES SOUTHEAST UTAH GROUP" (AUGUST 1996). THE INITIAL MONITORING OBJECTIVES WERE TO ESTABLISH A BASELINE DATABASE; DETECT POTENTIAL CHANGES; AND IDENTIFY AREAS OF CONCERN. THE UTAH DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY ANALYZED THE SAMPLES IN A COOPERATIVE EFFORT WITH THE PARK SERVICE BEGINNING 10/25/1990. THESE DATA CAN BE FOUND UNDER THE STATION 599542.
