| MonitoringLocationDescriptionText | Chinle Wash primarily flows east to west through Canyon de Chelly. White House Ruins is located on canyon walls about 500 feet north of the wash. The wash flows intermittently in this section of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Water samples were collected about 1,00 feet downstream of the ruins along a meandering stretch of river. Intermittent water sources in Canyon de Chelly National Monument are important features for flora, fauna, past cultures, and those presently living in the canyon. Water is important for subsistence agriculture now practiced in the canyon. Agricultural and industrial activities occur currently or have occurred historically in the Chinle Wash watershed. Erosion is a concern in the Canyon de Chelly and erosion can degrade waterquality. |
