MonitoringLocationDescriptionText Chinle Creek at Chinle, AZ is a USGS streamflow gaging station near the Canyon de Chelly National Monument boundary. Chinle Creek flows intermittently in a broad, sandbedded channel. Water samples were collected at the gaging station. Intermittent water sources in Canyon de Chelly National Monument are important features for flora, fauna, past cultures, and those presently living in the canyon. Water is important for subsistence agriculture now practiced in the canyon. Agricultural and industrial activities occur currently or have occurred historically in the Chinle Wash watershed. Erosion is a concern in the Canyon de Chelly and erosion can degrade waterquality.
