THE STATION IS ON THE NIOBRARA RIVER INSIDE THE AGATE FOSSIL BEDS NATIONAL MONUMENT NEAR THE VISITORS TRAIL. THE RIVER WAS SAMPLED AS PART OF A STUDY ON MACROINVERTEBRATES. THE STUDY; BY BORIS KONDRATIEFF; MEASURED NITRATES; PHOSPHATES; PH; AND OTHER PARAMETERS. THE STUDY; "MACROINVERTEBRATE ASSEMBLAGES AND WATER QUALITY IN SIX NATIONAL PARK UNITS IN THE GREAT PLAINS;" WAS SPONSORED BY THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE. THIS SITE WAS ACTIVE FROM JUNE 1988 TO MARCH 1990 AND WAS 150 METERS EAST OF THE VISITORS TRAIL ABOUT 25 METERS BEFORE THE TRAIL CROSSES THE RIVER.
