MonitoringLocationDescriptionText THE STATION IS LOCATED ON THE HODGENVILLE KENTUCKY 7.5 MINUTE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TOPOGRAPHIC QUADRANGLE. THE SITE IS AT A SPRING LOCATED WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN BIRTHPLACE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE (ABLI). THE DATA WERE COLLECTED AND THE SITE DESCRIPTION WAS PROVIDED BY WILLIAM WERRELL OF THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE WATER RESOURCES DIVISION. WEST OF THE VISITOR PARKING LOT AND SOUTHWEST OF SINKING SPRING THE BOUNDARY OAK SPRING SITE IS MARKED BY AN OAK STUMP WHICH ONCE DELINEATED THE BOUNDARY OF THE LAND OWNED BY THE LINCOLN'S. A 10' X 10' CONCRETE SLAB CONTAINING A MANHOLE ALSO MARKS THE SPRING. IMPERMEABLE BLACK SHALE OF APPROXIMATELY 12" TO 16" THICK APPEARS TO BE THE UNDERLYING STRATA.
