MonitoringLocationDescriptionText THE STATION IS LOCATED ON THE HODGENVILLE KENTUCKY 7.5 MINUTE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TOPOGRAPHIC QUADRANGLE. THE SITE IS AT A SPRING LOCATED WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN BIRTHPLACE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE (ABLI). THE DATA WERE COLLECTED BY THE KENTUCKY DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION. SINKING SPRING IS LOCATED IN A PIT NORTHEAST OF BOUNDARY OAK AND WEST OF THE VISITOR ROAD. WATER FLOWS FROM TWO ELEVATIONS WITHIN THE SPRING WHICH IS PRIMARILY COMPOSED OF FRACTURED LIMESTONE OUTCROPS. THE LOWER SPRING IS APPROXIMATELY 7 FEET BELOW THE UPPER SPRING. RUNOFF FROM THE HEADQUARTERS' PARKING LOT DRAINS DIRECTLY INTO SINKING SPRING.
