An 1100 ml subsample was poured off for filtration and the remaining original sample was used for field measurements of physical parameters taken with meters. The 1100 ml subsample was pressure-filtered in the field using a pressurized fluorocarbon gas canister attached to a filter assembly. The filtered water sample was mixed with 2 ounces of ion exchange resin for at least 10 min. For samples with a conductivity of less than 500 umhos/cm, a full liter was used. If the conductivity was between 500 and 1000 umhos/cm, then 500 ml was used. If the conductivity exceeded 1000 umhos/cm, only 200 ml of the filtered water was used. The resin was submitted for analysis. Streams were to be sampled upstream from roads or trails and from the flowing portion of the stream near mid-channel. SRL Eastern U.S. protocol for groundwater followed similar procedures as streams except alkalinity was determined on an unfiltered sample at springs and a filtered sample at streams.",Water Sampler (Other),The Savannah River Laboratory (SRL) Eastern U.S. protocol for water sample filtration in the field indicates an 1100 ml field subsample was poured off from a 2 liter plastic collection bottle or beaker. The subsample was filtered with pressure filtration gear with a 0.8 micron filter. The filtered water was processed with several items of equipment and supplies necessary for ion exchange removal of dissolved material from water samples.,NPS_PREP_UNKNOWN,11NPSWRD,"Unknown Prep Method, but has Container Type, Container Color, Preservative, or Thermal Attributes",,,,Unspecified,Unspecified,,Unspecified,"The procedure for ion exchange resin with water samples is as follows:][Using the ion exchange interchange cap, transfer the resin from the labeled 2-ounce bottle of resin into the filtered water sample. Remove the interchange cap and 2-ounce bottle (keep it clean by placing on an unused liter bottle). Place the 6-volt stirrer into the water-resin mixture and stir until the next site is reached (at least ten minutes). When the stirrer is removed, rinse and insert the stirrer in a fresh 1-liter bottle to make sure that it remains clean until used again. Replace the labeled 2-ounce bottle and interchange cap on the sample, invert, and place in the resin recovery case.][The amount of filtered water which is allowed to react with ion exchange resin will normally be exactly one liter. It is possible for one liter of water to contain more dissolved solids than can be removed by the resin. Conductivity gives a measure of the concentration of dissolved material and is used to estimate the amount of water to be ion exchanged. For samples with a conductivity of less than 500 umhos/cm, a full liter can be used. If the conductivity is between 500 and 1000 umhos/cm, then -+ Liter (500 ml) is used. If the conductivity is between 1000 and 2000 umhos/cm, 200 mL of the filtered water are used. If the conductivity exceeds 2000 umhos/cm, only 50 mL of the filtered water are used (Savannah River Lab guidance for eastern U.S. spring samples does include a volume recommendation for samples with conductivity between 1000 and 2000 umhos/cm, instead it says all samples with conductivity greater than 1000 umhos/cm should use 200 mL of filtered water). The volume used must be recorded on the field form. If the sample volume is only 50 mL, you may pour it directly into the 2-ounce bottle of resin without use of the stirrer. At the end of the field-day, resin is recovered into the labeled 2-ounce bottles which are securely capped for shipment.",,,,,,,,Aluminum,,7429-90-5,,Dissolved,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,STORET-740478031,37,ppb,,Final,,,Actual,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Savannah River National Laboratory,Wed Aug 03 00:00:00 GMT 1977,Sat Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT 1,EST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,STORET,,"Inorganics, Minor, Metals",Federal/US Government,Fri Jan 31 08:59:46 GMT 2025,,
